HHH Rapid Test Overview & Clinical Guidelines
Test Description
The HHH Rapid Test is a combined screening panel that simultaneously tests for Hepatitis B surface Antigen (HBsAg), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) antibodies, and HIV 1&2 antibodies using immunochromatographic (lateral flow) rapid test technology. This three-in-one panel is designed for rapid point-of-care screening in settings such as emergency departments, blood banks, STI clinics, and pre-operative assessments, providing results within 15–20 minutes from a finger-prick whole blood or serum sample. Hepatitis B is a blood-borne virus that causes acute and chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma; HBsAg is the earliest and most reliable marker of active HBV infection. HCV is a major cause of chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer; anti-HCV antibodies indicate past or current infection requiring confirmatory HCV RNA testing. HIV causes immune deficiency leading to AIDS; HIV 1&2 antibody detection is the primary screening method, with confirmatory testing by Western blot or HIV-1 RNA PCR. All reactive results from rapid testing must be confirmed by laboratory-based, high-sensitivity assays (CLIA, ELISA, ECLIA) before a definitive diagnosis is communicated to the patient, in accordance with national HIV testing guidelines and blood transfusion protocols.
