The 24-hour urine protein test measures the total amount of protein excreted in urine over a complete 24-hour period, providing a more accurate assessment of protein loss than a spot urine protein-to-creatinine ratio. Normal 24-hour urine protein: <150 mg/day. Persistent proteinuria is a key marker of kidney disease: 150–300 mg/day: microalbuminuria (early diabetic nephropathy) — though now standardly measured as albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR); 300 mg/day–3.5 g/day: moderate non-nephrotic proteinuria; >3.5 g/day: nephrotic-range proteinuria.
