A woman's health needs change significantly at different stages of life. From reproductive years to menopause and beyond, the right screening tests at the right time can detect conditions early and help you stay in optimal health.
Essential Screening Tests for Women
Pap Smear (Cervical Cancer Screening)
Detects abnormal cervical cells before they become cancer. Recommended every 3 years for women aged 21β65. Can be combined with HPV testing every 5 years after age 30.
Breast Self-Exam & Mammogram
Monthly self-examinations help detect changes. Annual mammograms are recommended starting at age 40 (earlier with family history). Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Indian women.
PCOD / PCOS Panel
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome affects 1 in 5 Indian women of reproductive age. Tests include:
- LH and FSH (hormone ratio)
- Testosterone (total and free)
- AMH (Anti-MΓΌllerian Hormone)
- Fasting insulin and blood sugar
- Pelvic ultrasound
Thyroid Function Test (TSH)
Women are 5β8 times more likely than men to have thyroid disorders. Test annually if you have symptoms or a family history.
Bone Density Scan (DEXA)
Recommended for women over 50 or post-menopausal women. Osteoporosis affects 46 million women in India β early detection allows early treatment.
Iron Studies & CBC
Women of reproductive age are particularly vulnerable to iron-deficiency anemia due to menstrual blood loss. A CBC and serum ferritin test should be done annually.
Vitamin D & B12
Critical for bone health, immunity, and nerve function. Deficiencies are very common in Indian women, especially those who are veiled or spend little time outdoors.
